This exhibition is about contemporary Israel—its vitality, directness, vulgarity, fun, high dreams and low dramas. For good or bad, Is- rael is intense, and its culture and art participate and reflect that—it is both earthy and mythic, a mixture of present-day conflicts, past traumas, harsh realities, and lofty ideals. But Dreams & Dramas is not just of or about contemporary Israel. It explores the local in a way that speaks to a shared global experience and to a generation that is interested in finding new ways of realizing ideals or making reality also, at least partially, ideal.
